Didn’t Saints, Leicester, Burnley and a few other try to sue Everton when they got the points deduction? I can’t see much coming of it as Saints have already been punished.

Not by the FA they haven’t.

Millwall are said to be considering it, but they have no claim as they finished above us and lost their own play off against Hull.

I'm clueless when it comes to football laws & rules and all that. But... is there a chance that the FA can increase our punishment by docking our points even further or worse still, dump us into League 1?

Anybody know?

Sorry, not on FB so can't open link, but what's the gist? Or is it that we are being sued by anyone we played and beat during Tonda's tenure?

Oh, any news on the Hull legal action to get auto promotion (which they should have)

Strap yourself in 1885, it’s quite a journey - get yourself a coffee and a comfortable seat

Here goes…

The Football Association can take additional disciplinary action against both the club and specific individuals involved in the Southampton "Spygate" scandal. While the English Football League is legally restricted to punishing member clubs, resulting in Southampton’s expulsion from the play-offs and a four-point deduction for next season, the FA operates as the ultimate regulatory authority over all levels of English football. This dual authority gives them broad scope to escalate the punishment.

Powers Against Individuals
The primary reason the FA launched its own independent investigation is to pursue the individuals who orchestrated, executed, or covered up the spying operation. The EFL lacks the jurisdiction to punish personnel directly, but the FA can target staff members under their own Association Rules regarding bringing the game into disrepute or breaching misconduct regulations. They will be looking at:

Team Management & Coaching Staff - Tonda Eckert and his technical staff face significant scrutiny and if found to have authorised or been aware of the operation, they can be handed lengthy, multi-month or even meeeeemulti-year football bans and substantial personal fines.

Analysts and Officials - The direct participants, including the data and video analysts caught recording the sessions who may face similar professional bans and fines.

Precedent from FIFA’s handling of the 2024 Olympic drone-spying incident saw the Canadian women's team manager and analysts banned from all football activities for a year.

Powers Against the Club
Although Southampton has already received severe sporting sanctions from the EFL, the FA retains the power to impose overlapping or additional punishments on the club itself if they deem the EFL’s punishment insufficient(!!!) or find wider systemic rule breaches.

The FA’s regulatory framework allows them to hit the club with:
Significant institutional financial penalties
Further points deductions applied to their future league campaigns
Transfer embargoes or restrictions on registering new players

The FA’s investigation is actively reviewing the evidence provided during the EFL hearings to determine the exact distribution of charges, due to the severity of the EFL IP’s sanction already handed out to SFC it is hoped that the FA will concentrate their efforts on sanctioning the individuals involved rather than the Club, however the fact the the IP did not fine SFC would leave the door open for them to heap further misery upon the Club should they so wish to.

That’s it - you did ask!! 😇

Cheers for that.

Christ. You'd think that with being expelled from tomorrow's play-off final and being docked 4-points is sufficient enough. I can't see the FA placing a transfer/player embargo on us because the matter didn't involve dodgy player trading, poaching, etc etc.

However, I can see them increasing the points deduction further, banning all our coaching staff, and possibly handing us a financial penalty in order to pay for all the investigations & tribunals that have taken place recently because of our wrongdoing. I'm assuming the FA, hopefully, will think that us fans have paid a high-enough price with not taking part in tomorrow's final. But I do fear they will want to be seen as 'Charlie Big Bollix' in the matter & enforce a hefty fine on us & perhaps another few points deducted.

Hope I'm wrong - obviously.

Surely Hull, Millwall, Wrexham and Uncle Tom Cobleigh if they sue for 'compensation' will need to sue the EFL. Their complaints relate to how the disciplinary process was run. Saints didn't put Mboro in the play-offs, decide that Hull couldn't have a bye, nor for that matter did they do anything to Wrexham or Millwall at all. Perhaps Middlesbrough, if they lose tomorrow will claim a third crack at it by saying they were so upset they couldn't play properly.

I would imagine the FA will potentially issue sanctions to the members of staff who are implicated in any wrongdoing
Can't see them docking any more points as I don't think that would be in their power, we play in the EFL and they have already docked us points

I think this is a bit of a non story tbh, this whole affair has shown me how the media has changed. Normally I wouldn't take much notice but this story involves something I care about so it's different. It's all about the constant need to create content on all these platforms so as Saints are considered to be newsworthy at the moment there's a constant slew of nothing stories or rehashing the same articles again and again, you just have to look at the BBC for that

I've never wanted Hull City Football Club to win a game of football so much!

That's the problem with the FA. You just never know what they're going to do... unless you're Manchester City of course. Then it's zilch. Little ol' Southampton however...

That's a great point about the upset caused to Middlesbrough. I imagine it's been really tough for them. Their Chairmam too - he's had to do a lot of work when he should have been relaxing in The Maldives.

But if they fail to win tomorrow, your suggestion that they be allowed to play the play-off final again is a bit silly. They must already be tired and emotionally exhausted - imagine how they are going to be after another 90 minutes.

Instead, I suggest that if they lose the final, they be allowed to start next season on +12 points, and with the guarantee of a by- into the play off final if they fail to secure that by their results alone.

But that's enough then. That's seems very fair to me.

everybody at the club involved will be suspended for bringing the game into disrepute,we will then sack them for free, then replace them, some players under contract will then be sold to balance the books at there market value,we will then replace them as required, fans will give us some stick but who cares and the season will recommence as normal, lets just crack on nobody died.

Agreed, they won’t be putting a transfer embargo on us - I was just answering the question in general terms covering all the bases. Personally I think they will go after those responsible for organising and undertaking the spying. My only worry is if they unearth any more proof of spying against other clubs then the points deduction could increase as the FA could do that as they actually have the power to impose what they call overlapping sanctions. Hopefully it stops with further sanctions against those individuals who were directly involved with the spying.
