Probably because he knows intimately what a bin fire it is for your cash. And lo, here he goes trying to buy Liverpool. |
Let's not forget that he sanctioned a reduction in the cost of in house meals from £10 to £9. Where would we be today without that??

The real money is in T20 nowadays. Even the Glazers tried and failed to buy an IPL franchise. Laxmi Mittal and his mates had more success https://www.espn.co.uk/cricket

Warnock got us promoted in 2010. FFP introduced in 2011. I think that was the real sliding doors moment. The financial regs have hamstrung us far more than anything Ben Williams could inflict on us.

If Glazer bought an IPL team he’d likely try and get the game changed to baseball!

Yep and tbh, even if someone was to buy the club, we’d be in deep trouble given the chancers that would likely be successful. We must be one of the most unattractive investment propositions in the league so anyone decent has the pick of any number of clubs. We’d only be of interest to someone who can’t compete against those other buyers. The club exists because Ruben has stuck around and chooses to underwrite it. Long term, without him, I can’t see us as anything other than screwed.

From what I've heard baseball is dying on its feet. The youngsters don't like it. Matches are too long and there are too many complicated rules. T20 is soaring. The IPL now has the second most lucrative sports matches in the world: https://www.isst.co.in/2026/06 "IPL vs Premier League Revenue: Analyzing the Per-Match Value Surge As of June 2026, each IPL match is worth roughly ₹125 crore ($15.1 million). Compare that to the English Premier League, which pulls in about $11.5 million per match. The IPL is now the second most valuable sports league on earth per game, trailing only the NFL. Think about that. A league that didn’t exist twenty years ago is out-earning a century-old football tradition on a per-minute basis. The logic is simple: Scarcity equals premium. The IPL plays 74 to 84 matches. The Premier League plays 380. Every IPL game is a national event, which means advertisers pay a massive “event premium” rather than a “standard rotation” rate. This efficiency is why the salary of sports manager in IPL 2026 has hit record highs. Teams are no longer hiring “cricket fans”—they are hiring elite mathematicians and strategists to squeeze every drop of value from these high-stakes windows." | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It did but it's just Ruben buying up clubs. Reilly's not involved with him on that. Ruben now has three clubs: - QPR - LA FC - Central Coast Mariners I'm sure it's just coincidence that someone who owns a major port is buying up football clubs in places that have big ports. Maybe he just likes being close to the water.
| Amit Bhatia on 17:19 - Jul 21 with 3769 views | numptydumpty | Its all about getting into the premier league, and then the billionaires would come knocking here, I guess. Very much a back seat driver In the last decade at QPR, but I liked him and his ideas when he first came in and was very much more active in the club and had to deal with a mess of epic proportions. Best of luck to him and his family. Was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but was not the type to sit back and wish their family well, if they manage to buy Liverpool. When someone leaves any role, whatever the level in any organisation, if you can say they tried their best, then fair enough. [Post edited 21 Jul 17:22]

Am I right in thinking every loss has seen his shares diluted as only Ruben was willing to cover the losses? I’m not even sure in what capacity Amit’s been here for the past ten years. Perhaps waiting for Ruben to lose interest which, so far, hasn’t happened. |
Most notable recent contribution was getting Ainsworth appointed as manager. Quit as chairman shortly afterwards...

Which will never happen. He’s only still here as he wants all of his money back to sell and so has been quoting crazy numbers to potential investors.

Problem was that their ‘offer’ was to basically take the club off Briatore’s hands for £1 rather than actually trying to buy it. Ultimately for all the good PR Bhatia got out of ‘the four year plan’, he spent more time at Stamford Bridge than Loftus Road in the years that followed.

The Mittals also put $1B into the new Boston Celtics ownership group last year. I don’t remember the specifics, but had read or heard on a podcast that they were looking to expand their sports holdings, but wasn’t sure if it was NFL vs EPL.

I guess they’re allowed to invest a bit more in other sports than they’ll be allowed to put into our club thanks to FFP and P+S rules that shackle clubs to their supposed rightful place.
| Amit Bhatia on 21:11 - Jul 21 with 2733 views | LazyFan | Mittal's, I always thought, wanted to build a new stadium on the cheap on some council land, make money from Loftus Road being sold off, and then use the proceeds from the land sale to FFP QPR into the Prem. Getting a London Prem club on the cheap, so to speak. Years later, I suspect that the Land they want to build on is not available for the money they wish to spend. These are Business people, so now they are out. | |

Those letters represented increased commercial revenue for the club. Let's hope if that's to be discontinued there's a plan to replace it.

| Amit Bhatia on 07:18 - Jul 22 with 2043 views | davman | Let's be honest here. He appeared to help when Briatore was persuaded to take a back seat, but aside from that I am not sure that he has done that much for us. Certainly went in to hiding when the going got tough. Hardly seen or heard from since his name turned up on a stand. He had EVERY chance to get more involved, but did not and has never explained why. The only concern is that we have gone from three rich owners to just one, which leaves us incredibly vulnerable seeing as the club is still c£20m a year of being "self sufficient ". | |
