Poll: If we were today re-instated to the play-off final, would you go on Saturday?

Who cares?

Spend more time worrying about where SFC are going than that lot.

I will probably be banned from this forum for heresy but I quite like a night out in Southsea
The Wedgewood Rooms is a great venue, seen some excellent gigs there and the khazis are a great spot for some pro Saints graffiti and stickers. Really easy to get to from my manor too

Fail we may, sail we must

It is a good venue. Seen many a lively gig there.

And Portsmouth Guildhall is one of my favourite gig venues as well, in truth. It's a much better venue than Southampton Guildhall, it pains me to say.

There was a fairly long discussion about it on here earlier this year.

Feel free to put me on Ignore.

Blackpool made the shortlist too.

Christ.

One can imagine that with a £10 million prize at stake for "projects", there is scope for all sorts of brown envelopes to change hands here.

You would have thought Portsmouth City Council would have enlisted the services of a prominent member of the Redknapp family to assist in smoothing things.....

Calm down.

I’ve watched on for a long time at your pearls and lively debate with the owner of this forum.
I wouldn’t wanna miss out.

Can we be friends please? X

But why would anyone actually want it?
Only it seems to me that they award the "title" to places that are shitholes that need the dosh to improve their city, not a place that is currently culturally savvy
Although I enjoyed the chant against the Skates "you live in a fuk in shithole" so maybe they did need it

Poll: Are you renewing your season ticket

Most places have areas of that are run down
When Mrs S first went into Woking she described it as being “just like Harlow” she’s from Essex and that’s a pretty big insult
What does it have? A shit statue of a Martian in reference to War Of The Worlds as HG Wells used to live in the town, and that’s it. Nothing to reference The Jam, the diary yard mentioned in Town Called Malice is now flats and The Liberal Club where Paul Weller played his first gig has been derelict for years. There isn’t even an ironic reference to the Andrew formally known as prince’s Pizza Express of choice
Doing up the town centre and making it worse and the redevelopment of the Sheerwater estate has bankrupted the council

Basically, most towns and cities need funding for redevelopment so I’m not surprised so many want to win the award and funding

Fail we may, sail we must

I don’t think there is any comparison with Wrexham and Portsmouth. It’s staggering how Wrexham have got the media on their side because of their influential owners. There’s no doubt it’s had a resurgence in the past few years, but Pompey knocks spots off ot. Wrexham is barely a City, more a big town.

Of the final 4 I'd go for Sheffield and then Blackpool
Milton Keynes or Wrexham, I don't think so unless it's felt that the areas would really benefit from the funding

Fail we may, sail we must

Wrexham’s only officially been a city for a few years and that’s a bit of a stretch. I still thought it was only a town as I’d forgotten it had acquired city status.

My Dad grew up near Wrexham and couldn’t wait to get out. He went to uni in Hull and met my Mum, who was up there from Southampton. My Dad had the good sense to go to Liverpool for nights out and saw the Beatles in the Cavern when he was a teen.

I used to go to Wrexham now and then (it’s a bloody long way from Hants) as a kid to see rellies and there wasn’t much doing then. The scenery in North Wales is lovely but I don’t think there’s much else going for it.

I’ve got to go back at some point to inter my Mum’s ashes next to my Dad’s in a local churchyard. I’ll be interested to see if it’s come on any since my last visit, which was to lay my Dad’s ashes to rest back in 2014.

As a place, there’s much more doing in Pompey, although I haven’t been there for a while either.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.
