Pubs Set To Re open on 14:26 - Jun 8 by Bison | The Mrs has taken the kids there a few times , they are selling ice cream so not really being a pub just an ice cream parlour. Nice ice cream by the way but rather have a pint of stella. |
Is that all they're selling there then? It was pretty busy with middle aged geezers, only a handful of women and I saw no kids at all. Strange demographic for an ice cream parlour.

Pubs Set To Re open on 10:20 - Jun 8 by 1885_SFC | Slightly off topic - but this virus must have decimated the dogging scene. Rubbing alcohol gel on the old chap has gotta burn, surely? Ouch. |
I've been walking my dog everyday as normal

They do click and collect Sunday roasts so if it was a Sunday I expect they were all there to pick up Sunday dinner. There's also a post office in the pub so may of been giro day ! They deffo not serving beer as they had to throw 1,400 pints away last week.

Booze-flavoured ice cream? New niche area of business. Wish I had thought of it before......

Just getting ready for the return of football, sir. Top 3 things to whinge about: 1. People not social distancing 2. Fraser Forster’s wages 3. Wetherspoon pubs

Pubs Set To Re open on 17:03 - Jun 8 with 827 views | dirk_doone | Coronavirus has moved to the southern hemisphere with the winter. It's naturally petering out in this country now. By July we'll be almost back to normal and that will include pubs.

Pubs Set To Re open on 10:15 - Jun 8 by solent_toffee | I think I will stick to my own garden to be honest, much cheaper, better music and a distinct lack of muppets (myself excluded). I can’t see me going back into a pub until everything is back to relative normal, ie going the match, gigs etc. |
Think I'm with you on this one Solent. Where is the enjoyment going to be where you can't go to the bar and moan about poor service and " I was here before him" discussions with the bar staff, having to maintain some form of social distancing which will generally not happen as the beers start to flow, and then not being able to just stand at the bar with your mates as it will have to be table service outside with them making you put their bl00dy app on your phone! And who's to say what they will have done to the prices? Up to make up lost money, or down to try and encourage you to go in? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was a Sunday tbf, in which case what’s even more shocking is the amount of people who are incapable of cooking their own Sunday roast.

Agreed, a home cooked Sunday lunch is always better than a hard on the inside soggy on outside pub roast potato.

My local does a great roast and at not much more than you would pay for the raw ingredients. No washing up either. What’s not to like?

I would wait a week or two and see what the impact has been of all the gatherings at beaches and protests over the last fortnight, not to mention that everything is generally getting a lot busier. Don’t be surprised if Londoners and Home Counties types have brought the virus down south with them to the beaches.

Calm yourself. Pub Gardens being allowed to open does not constitute pubs being open.

It’s a step in the right direction which can only be a good thing. As Nick says there are too many looking for reasons not to do something than to find solutions to problems. I’m not bothered if it’s just beer gardens to start with. What would you rather do sit at at home in front of the TV with a can of beer ? Some were complaining about the football restarting now it’s pubs. I really enjoyed the bundesliga restarting despite the fact there was no atmosphere,it was good to seem teams fully committed and I’m looking forward to the restart of the premier league. I say let the experts get on with it and let’s get things back to normal albeit slowly. The powers that be are not going to put lives at risk, I’m pretty sure it will all be well thought out and carefully planned and at the end of the day you don’t have to experience it if you don’t want to.

Who is complaining about pubs being restarted? Pub gardens opening and only being allowed to sit in your households just doesn't interest me. Then again, I've built a fully functional pub in my garage and back garden serving Moretti and Heineken on draft, which is every bit as good as a pub pint so perhaps I'm less bothered about pub gardens opening as I've been drinking draft beer all through lockdown. Also, all I said was that it would make very little BUSINESS sense for pubs to open unless they have an outdoor serving area as it will require them bringing their staff back from furlough. What happens when it rains or is cold? They will losing even more money than they were even during lockdown.

Heineken on draught at home gets the big thumbs up from me. Liking the sound of The Boris Arms.....

I’m not opposed to the concept of pubs re-opening. I just struggle to see the appeal. When I envisage how it is going to pan out, with warm beer in plastic glasses (and you can expect to pay a minimum of a fiver a pint for the privilege as they will need to cover their costs) and fairly lengthy toilet queues, it just sounds like going to a music festival but without the bands.

Yep, totally agree with this. I want to see all businesses open as quickly as possible, including those in hospitality, but I can't see myself rushing out for a few pints under those circumstances.

Part of the joy of popping to the pub was you wouldn't know who you might meet. I get your point about the beer being better in your home boozer but the quality of the beer as never been a big attraction for the local pub. The missus: why are you so late back you said you'd only be an hour You: You'll never guess who I bumped into ....

You are spot on. The pub has always been my place to socialise and probably go 4-5 times a week, even if just for an after work pint. The thing is, you won't be able to 'bump into' anyone at the pub at the moment as you'll only be allowed to sit in your household groups. As soon as social distancing is relaxed then I'll be desperate to get back to normality in the pub.

The chain pubs reopening makes little business sense, but more and more these days there are smaller bars, run by a couple of individuals with part time staff, these need to reopen. In simple terms they still have some bills to pay and some qualify for little relief , they arent going to make big profits but they will cover some of their losses. Going to a pub garden won't interest everyone and that is good, but plenty of people will support their local pub and that has to be good You are right the weather will be an issue, but then they have lost very little other than a little bit of staff wages,

You keep saying part-time staff Nick. Pubs are open 12 hours a day at least. It doesn't matter whether the hours are made up of part-time or full-time, they need to staff it for 12 hours. Most pubs will have been given a £25,000 grant. The very small pubs ( Tudor Rose etc ) will have got a £10,000 grant. Generally the smaller pubs aren't going to have an outdoor area of any decent size. The pubs run by landlord/landlady and a couple of helpers don't exist with more than a very few exceptions ( Tudor Rose is the only one I can think of in Romsey and possibly Star Inn but neither have decent outdoor areas ).
