The owners have spent in the region of a £100mill so far and some how the squad is weaker than last season. Im interested to know if the owners have put money in or saddle the club with even more debt.
Whats more we now have an incredibly bloated squad (42) of poor quality. Im sure ive missed some off the list.

Very good point/stats made Butty. As someone has said, amongst all that is some decent players and the making of a decent squad but equally it is bloated with some poor quality and must be costing us a bomb in salaries. I know many have said our strategy is to buy cheap and young in the hope of selling big at some point, but I am not even convinced we are following that strategy but it seems to be at the sacrifice of quality and experience which is needed alongside some youth to take us forward. It also questions the point of our academy as it is hard to see our own youngsters breaking through when they seem to buy in so many young players. They must feel frustrated.

I don't pretend to know what is right or wrong or what is really going on or what our aims are as a club but it just feels like we are fumbling around hoping that somehow we find a solution. I think a strong experienced manager who is clear about what they want and who they need is a first stepping stone but that would probably scare the living daylights out of the owners.

Which ones are quality? Where is the evidence for that? Why haven't the top clubs bought any of these players if they are quality?

JWP, KWP are proven good players, maybe Stuart Armstrong, not sure who else.

The squad is bloated, but there are a lot of inherited players in there that the new owners have stuck on the books, hence the size.

Around 8 of those you list are out on loan, and there are several youth/B team players in there that you include such as 18 year old goalkeeper Jak Steward, so there are probably only around 30 genuine first team squad players in your list, not the 42 that you claim.

That is about normal as most teams have the 26 man squad plus youth players who are not counted in the number

We don't have any match winners. JWP steps up occasionally. We have a few full internationals in defence but we don't have any real quality up front and if you don't score goals , you don't win games. None of the players you mention score goals regularly and that's the issue. We always had a Le Tissier, an Ings, a Tadic, a Pelle, a Lambert to win games. Even a Beattie or a Kevin Davies. I can't see regular goal scorers on that list. Although I would consider playing Perraud up front and would definitely be playing Stuart Armstrong. The jury is out on Orsic and Alvarez. They look ok but haven't managed any goals yet, even against lower opposition.

I've said it all season.
We have a bigger squad but we don't have a better team.
We've got certain players that couldn't get into the team last season now getting regular game time.
eg. Diallo + Djennepo + Adam A.
And we only survived by the skin of our teeth last season so what chance do we have this season.

A good striker not playing for a big 6 side will get around 12 goals a season, so im basing it on half of that, only 8 players have got over 7 goals so far.

To be fair when Lawrie took over from Ted Bates we were in a decent position in the 1st Division.
We then went on a bad run and got relegated.
A lot of fans were very unhappy with Lawrie's appointment and remember him being booed when walking along the touchline to the dugouts.
Fortunately it all came good at the end

You might think that; I couldn’t comment……

But we're not going to get any such striker. As the club have said we will get "forwards" instead, who will add "potency" in different ways. If you believe them, the goals will come from across the team. Well, JWP and Perraud are doing their bit, but I'm not sure the others were listening when they did the briefing.

As far as I'm concerned, yes we need a striker (ideally a traditional no 9) but even in the fantasy world where we got one, the rest of the team isn't good enough, or experienced enough, to avoid the drop. Charly looks good, he will improve us, but that won't be enough. A lot of the younger players will go on to have top level careers (somewhere) once they've got some more experience, but they're not ready to do the business just yet.
