Lambert said as much on Solent last night.

I suspect he may be right.

Lambert says water can talk so probably best not to take him too seriously.

Much as I love Rickie Lambert as I am assuming you mean him, he is hardly at the hub of Southampton football club these days, so dont think he has anything of substance to go on.

The problem with Russell Martin (Mr Suicidal Football) was it was more about him than it was about the team. The even bigger problem was SR waiting far too long to sack him - which has cost us dearly - and even then getting it majorly wrong with Juric.

I'm not sure if some of these ex-players are watching the same Southampton games as me.

Totally agree. They even dragged Pardew out this morning for his views although tended to agree with what he was saying - basically the club fuked itself up with it's recruitment but also that Martin wasn't good enough for the Prem with his style of play with the players he had

Sticking with Martin-ball too long and then replacing him with a complete dud have clearly been appalling decisions.

But we are going to find out how bad they were in the next 7 games.

If Rusk/Lallana can get a tune out of this squad, then we will know that where we ended up was not inevitable.

Wouldn’t it be just typical to double our points tally in the remaining games !?

And very unlikely.

I'd be happy with a point at Leicester to at least equal the worst ever tally.

I might sound completely deluded given where we are but i still honestly believe that this squad wasn't anywhere near as bad as the table suggests it is.

At the very least having seen Leicester we're on a par with them, and not far off Ipswich.

We were just so staggeringly badly managed at the start of the season that it completely destroyed any hope we had.

Couple that with Martin's refusal to get the team fit and it's made us significantly worse than we should've been.

I've never actually thought we could stay up, but my opinion has always been we should be able to compete at least, and i still blame Sport Republic for not sacking Martin the day after the play off final win

if we suddenly improve because the players pull there fingers out that would drive me mad and show them up for what they are

I agree broadly with this appraisal. We are about as good as Leicester and Ipswich, but all three are shockingly inadequate for the PL. Ipswich had a brilliant journey to the PL, and they are the only one of the three to up their goals oring prowess.

The likes of Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves survived promotion largely because they have goalscorers.

The best we could have hoped for was survival clinging by our fingertips, but sadly, the manager was standing on them.

If you are deluded then I am in the same camp.

100% this.

It was blöody obvious that we couldn’t play the RM way in the Premier League. Once we got shot and brought in Juric it became totally evident that our mob weren’t even fit.

Still, let’s see who this mob bring in next.

Completely agree with this,Frannie
We know the players have struggled, but they could have performed so much better if they had been properly managed.

Juric was a mistake.
End of.
He was never going to be our manager in The Championship.

When we are relying on Onuachu for goals we are up shit creek.

This is true but Juric was also a complete no-hoper.

Had Martin been sacked after 8 games and a better manager brought in, there would very likely have been some improvement.

Juric managed to make us worse. That's just as extraordinary as Martin's mismanagement.
