I was there with my best mate, both of our dads and one of their very close friends. Unfortunately the dads and the friend are no longer with us. Stamford Bridge was a considerably different stadium in those days.

The semi had a funny feel to it because although Palace were a Div 3 outfit, Allison (and I think, a young Terry Venables) had created such momentum in their run that I almost felt like we were the underdogs.
No doubting we were underdogs in the Final...but it didn't matter did it?

Yep I was there, the sea of Red and white scarfs with yellow and blue thrown in was a great sight. Everyone used to sing never walk alone in those days and the shed was rammed with Saints fans . I just knew we were going to to win it , I had that feeling right from the early rounds. It was good to shut Malcomn Alison up , he was very cocky before the game . Great goal by Gilchrist then Peach who sealed it from the spot. We had the luck with the draw in 76. You need that.

Watched the Big Match episode earlier today of the game. Haven’t watched it for a while (have the final on DVD but the loft is a bit messy atm…). The extra interviews around the game are always a great watch.

It was great to get drawn against a London team in a semi-final at Stamford Bridge back then, because the team that had to travel the greatest distance got the home end, so we got the Shed and the noise we made there was brilliant. One of the national papers even said in its match report that it was the noisiest Stamford Bridge had ever been.
I couldn't make it but my older brother was there and told me there was a terrier which appeared on the pitch from the Palace fans end, and somehow ended up with the Saints fans who held it aloft and predictably came up with the chant "We've got your doggie, we've got your doggie..." Anyone remember this or possibly an urban myth??!!

Just about sums Fedora man up, couldn't answer a direct question, though must admit I'm not a great fan of Mullery either. But at the end of the day they both have opinions but both so pig headed that their own opinion is apparently the only opinion!
We sat in one of the stands and a group of 4 lads came in after kick off obviously having enjoyed a few sherberts. They all went off to find more drink at half time and returned when the game had restarted I recollect that all of them fell asleep in the second half and had idea what the score was until the racket around them at Full Time awoke them from their alcohol induced slumbers. We also saw a lad in Saints colours riding a woman style bike on the A3 as we were driving home. We reckoned he had nicked it. Hope he didnt live in Southampton!!
