Bad miss from Ward but he got nothing from his central defenders. I'm still in favour of sticking with Morrison but dreadful 7 or 8 mins from him. |
Morrison yes had a really poor period of play. His pace and lack of know how really highlighted.
No challenge for the second goal also. For the first looked like it was going to be put into row z but alas. He seems to have regressed a little as at one point I felt he was definitely decent. [Post edited 1 Aug 16:37]

Really disappointed with Morrison - a player I like but he looks like he’s 49 years old
As for Harvey Vale…… I just do not see what other people see in him. Weak, slow, poor in the air, bit of a pussy in the tackle and seems to find pockets to hide in for long periods of games.
I’m up for being wrong but still getting strong Jimmy Smith vibes.

I wasn’t able to watch the game last night, only the 10mins highlights this morning.
Based on the positives I was hearing from last night and then what I saw this afternoon I would say that the man between the sticks may have been an important factor.
It seemed to me that Ward either by choice or instruction was playing a “midfield bypass” game for much of the 90. It was like watching paint dry when he received the ball to feet. Perhaps it is instructed but he waits until the opponents press him and then goes long - bypassing Varane and Vale and looking for Burrell or Kone and that did not work.
So, important not to get too over excited with last night and then not too down with today.
Saito proves he has a place in the squad perhaps as an impact sub as he certainly can finish as he did today. Good to see Scarlett with a calm finish and Perlman, raw but has a strike on him too and followed his own shot in and reacted the quickest.
Negative unfortunately was Morrison, especially their first goal, totally roasted, even though he was pulled out of position as Amadou had gone a wandering. We seemed seemed to have no central midfield presence today, I dont think it is Vale’s position but Varane was simply not in the game most of the time, either because of Ward or saving himself for the start of the season - but anon for much of the game.
Charles gets my vote to start as No1 initially based on what I have seen and comments from last night. Back 4 seems to pick itself I think with JCS as backup to Edwards. Problem is that with no Madsen, unless Varane has been saving himself, then without Madsen we have an issue unless, based on all the fanfare we have Glen Kamara waiting in the wings as a done deal. |  |

Like I say, despite his ability to dazzle a goal in I’m still not feeling there’s a dominant midfielder in there.

I will say late in the game he did get back and toe poke the ball away to stop an AFC promising attack (Mbengue MIA) which is good to see.

Always said he was no good. Weak powder puff, slow, lacks aerial prowess, got a huge mistake in him every game.
Oddly rated by many for a while.
