Neither side was particularly impressive. We've improved under Hughes, but not enough to actually make a difference to the results.
The truth is that we've got a lot of average and below-average premier league players. Strikers who panic in front of goal, midfielders who can't pass forwards without giving up possession, and defenders who give attackers space. We need a serious cull, regardless of what happens at the end of this season. I'd find it easier to list the players I'd want to keep

Not sure why I bothered today as we could see what the issues were all season and those who could make the changes didn't and today epitomised the season writ small. The defending today was pathetic and seems to be getting worse. Both goals today in their own ways had more in common with hung over sunday morning amateurs than top division defenders. We all know what the problems are. Can you imagine if arsenal sold henry, vierra, adams, Dixon, keown, parlour, bergkamp, pires and Ljungberg and lost 3 decent managers over 4 consecutive seasons how dire they would be? Well they'd be something like us. What saints have achieved and destroyed in a handful of season is unprecedented in modern football. God help us in the championship next year.

Dreadful. Many fans stayed away because they knew it would be. Watching Saints in recent seasons has been like watching a tarantula lay it’s eggs in your ball sack. Bloody painful and you know there is worse to come. Too many average players and a huge wage bill. Shane Long is a joke. He spends all of his time trying to draw a foul and couldn’t trap a bag of cement. He ends up chasing his first touch all over the pitch. Rumours are that Long is on £60-80k a week - whoever signed off on that deal should be sacked. As for Hoedt - he is the worst defender I have seen in years. At times this year he has looked like a one-legged man trying to stand up in a hammock. If you think I am exaggerating - watch their second goal. How have we managed to acquire such mediocrity? Clear out needed. ASAP.

Within 10 seconds when the pass upfield from the kick-off went straight off for a throw, I thought: "Well, that's that, then." And it never really got any better apart from a 10-15 minute spell after Tadic and Redmond came on. There was suddenly a bit of creativity and, in Redmond's case, pace. But the starting line-up had no flair at all unless you count Lemina but he played like a zombie until about 70 minutes in. Bertrand had no help down the left so he and Moses just cancelled each other out and it was the same for Cedric. Loads of balls hoofed up in the general direction of Austin and Long. Austin barely left the ground and Long was easily snuffed out. Only much later did we start to put genuine pressure on the Chelsea defence and they wobbled. Sadly we haven't got anyone with the ability to score a goal. Perhaps most of the team that finished the game should start against Bournemouth with Two of Long, Austin and Gabbiadini. And find a place for JWP. If next Saturday we haven't scored or at least created chances in the first 20 minutes, the crowd will get jittery and that will spread to the players and Bournemouth could take riotous advantage as Chelsea did last week. Hughes says Saints have got to throw the kitchen sink at the rest of the season. Well, today, he gently tossed a flannel and some cold water. At least we're now spared dozens of "when are the tickets on sale?" posts and I won't have to part with any more cash for the final,

Could have beenmuch worse. We suffer from total lack of luck. We could have scored 4 goals.

1) Long one on one with Cabellero. 1. touch non existing, unfortunately.
That was it for me. Long out.
Is the man sufffering from a neurological disease? No technical skills anymore. Where has his pace gone?

2) Redmonds effort. With a minimum of luck it had gone in.

3) Cabellero´s own goal. Foul from Austin? Never!

4) Austin hit inside of the post. With a minimum of luck it had also gone in.

NO F*****G LUCK AT ALL.

what a game..21nd half end to end..desperate defending, bodies on line to block any shot. On top of that McCarthy pulls off a great save in the last minute of added time.
More entertainment than any of the Puel or Pellegrinos performances put together.
If we keep that up, the miracle could still be on
