A very enjoyable game and we were very unlucky to go a goal down first half had freeman taken that well worked opportunity and they were a bit lucky for their goal. Great second half performance and superb subs from OH got the result we deserved and could have been 3 if connor had taken chance at the end credit to Lua Lua playing after his father died very brave. On Lua Lua not sure how he won so many free kicks he just went over and the ref blew . Great performance from perch and Luongo . Hull look like a team in trouble

If you are going to press high up the field and commit players to attack then you have to be confident of being able to defend against teams that can come at you at sped on the counter, can we say we are confident of that at the moment ?

Lemina in the side will help that and get Hoedt in and it will make a big difference, get Van Dijk in as well and we will be a decent side

In my view, the way to analyse this game is to first consider the situation if we hadn't been given a penalty award in the last moments of the game.

Had that been the scenario then I suspect that the conclusion would have been exactly as SaintBrock and Ace have set out, namely that far too much side passing and allowing the other side to reorganise their defence whilst we tried this way and that to get through the wall had cost us the game. This was never going to work against a big, physical and pretty dirty team like W Ham especially with their ever present threat on the counter with Antonio. There is no point in playing pretty football (and there is no doubt, some of it was easy on the eye) if you don't open up the other side's defence.

Even so, there were still a few glimmers of light towards the latter part of the second half especially after Long came on, with some racy attacks down the flanks and a more direct style, but it took the efforts of Yoshida (who I noticed went up front several times in the last 10 minutes to try to boost the attack) to get us over the line. A bit of a soft penalty but that is hardly the point, he and JWP combined to make the sort of direct attack that should have unlocked this game (against 10 men) a lot sooner.

Shiite lineup to start. Davis is now not good enough even for the bench.
No midfield as ad infinitum. Dreary borefest. Redmond, Tadic dog awful. Clasie and Hojberg ARE better than Mr Plod and Davis and Pelligreno is a moron for not seeing that. Stephens was constantly ball watching and is therefore not good enough to start at all. Yoshida doing the job of the forwards. Cedric shoots and misses til 2050. Saints do not get that pass quite right by 3000 times. Need 3 more Lemina's. As said Bertrand? I hope Cedric and Bertrand end up at Chelsea. At least Plug and Mcqueen try. Compared with that rubbish yesterday, I am looking forward to hitting my little toe against some furniture.

Oh dear after the Lord Mayors show the cart horse. So many changes and team did not appear to understand the formation and for the first half this resulted in a car crash of a performance.Baptiste and Caulker struggled with pace of Brentford forwards. But for some great saves from Matt Ingram it could have been 5-1 in the first half. Second half much better and we really should have got the second to make a game of it . Used to going out the cup but to be thrashed by that lot embarrassing.

The game was shocking and awful. Manager got the wrong formation at the start. Took to long to change it. Tadic was not at the races Austin is not a channel runner. To slow moving forward to much sideways backwards. A complete opposite of Saturday. Hopefully just a shit game and learn from this quickly.

Only 2 of our players looked good enough and motivated enough to match Wolves Reserve team last night: Yoshida and Romeu. The rest were comprehensively outfought and outplayed. The good news is we won't have to face teams as good as Wolves Reserves every week or have Ward-Prowse in the team every week.

One of the key reasons why we lost last night and have failed to score in so many games in recent months is Ward-Prowse. He stops all of our prmomising attacks before they can get going by standing with the ball, looking back, waiting for the opposition defence to regroup and then passing sideways or backwards. He also ensures that any goalscoring opportunites we get from set pieces, like the free-kick we had just in front of the Wolves penalty area, are wasted. Last night he seemed to have added a new trick to his game: messing up our defence by dummying that he is going to tackle and then letting the opponent through. This stops defenders who might have got a tackle in from doing so. When Lemina was on instead of Ward-Prowse v West Ham, our midfield was transformed, as he made quick incisive forward passes and helped Romeu out with the tackling duties. If Lemina plays v Huddersfield, we'll see a different Saints team; if Ward-Prowse plays, it will be the same as last night.

One other thing: we all knew that Bednarek was going to be cr@p. He was. His mistakes gave Wolves several chances to score early in the game. We were lucky that Dicko wasted them. I was surprised that Pellegrino didn't stake him Bednarek off earlier than he did, to save us from further punishment. If Bednarek plays against top Premier League strikers, we'll get thrashed.

Not good at all.
Are the players listening to Pellegrino?
Do we practice these new formations much in training?
Why such a laissez faire attitude even in the warm up?
Has Les placed Europa League qualification above everything else in importance this season?
What good is depth without quality?
