Well that was a missed opportunity. Still we learnt a few things. The kids are not ready for the premier League, we cant defend, Elyounoussi was a waste of money, Sam Gallagher has got no better and is still not good enough for the Premier League we also need to spend money on 2 or 3 new players.

Unbelievable that we continue to do the same over and over. If this doesn't show what we have all been saying for over two seasons now this defense is in need of a major overhaul. As for Elyounoussi pathetic display again not one game has he showed any ability to play in this league and for the life of me don't understand how he is still here.Hope we can come through Saturday with a better result, thinking positive but this is so frickin frustrating.

So so many out of their depth tonight, in a jaded, static display that looked more like a Puel / Pell / Hughes team than a Ralf.

Some were too scared to express themselves and others showed they don't have the ability to perform, even against Championship opposition.

Annoyingly, we started so well too, but soon became pedestrian with a lack of pentration and drive.

Even so, we still did enough to win it in normal and extra time - but hey ho, didn't fancy driving to Acc so early on a Saturday anyway.

Poor miss from Redmond and hoped Gunn would have got a little closer to perhaps 1 of the 5 he faced, but so be it. Focus on the league and staying in the Prem now - but at least tonight shows we need shot of lots, some aren't ready and probably won't ever be and we need to buy experience in this window !!

It was like playing with 9 men. Elly a complete waste again apart from 2 touches. 2 more assists from Cedric through inept defending. Time to offload these two & reinvest.
On the plus side another good all round performance from JWP ( & I'm one of his biggest critics). More of the same please. Gallagher didn't look to be the answer up front. Despite not setting the world alight we need to be patient with the kids.

We scored 2 in the second half and thereby went in front 2-0 and had the game under controle, but........ despite the fact that we have given away two 2-0 leads away earlier in the season and should have learned from this and avoided it happened for the third time, Derby manage to scored 2 and the match ended 2-2.
No further goals in extra time. Redmond missed his pen -> we lost.
Yes, we didn´t play our strongest starting 11, because we have an important match vs Everton in 3 days, BUT, I, who have follow and supported Saints since I was 12 in 1980, am very, very disappointed with this result.
Sh*t!
Let´s just hope, that this will not influence the momentum we have built up in the PL recently, and that RH has consolidated in his head, that we need at least 1 or 2 new players in this window, a new, very good CB being the most important purchase.
COYS!

2-0 leads are not our strong point. At least this sends the message that we need reinforcements loud and clear. Elyounoussi is proving to be a real Les Reed classic isn't he?

How many unmarked headers a few yards out did we let them have?

Very disappointed Redmond didn't pass with 2 players in front of an open goal. Nice goal he scored but missed a couple. I thought Ramsay showed promise and did not panic. Elyounoussi a big disappointment but JWP put in a good shift. Johnson has promise but needs more control. Now we have only the league to think about and lets hope our "stars" come back refreshed and on form for Saturday. Also RH must see we need to strengthen in the window.

Southampton signed Mohamed Elyounoussi for a reported £16m from Basel. This was to replace Dusan Tadic's £10m departure from the Saints to Ajax. Dusan Tadic has now played 36 games for Ajax and scored 18 goals with 9 assists what has Mohamed Elyounoussi done for Saints.

I thought Romeu was our best player. He gets better and better.

Derby had some really good youngsters playing along with some experienced players. They looked good at times and seemed to want the win more. We still look so fragile that we are better off putting all our energy into staying up.
